Aluminum hydroxide is a white solid, insoluble in water but soluble in acid or alkali. It is a typical amphoteric hydroxide that can be transformed into alumina after being heated and dehydrated in air, which is important for alumina production.

Application:

The chemical formula of aluminum hydroxide is Al(OH)3, and it has a melting point of 573K. It can be used as a raw material for producing alumina, alum, aluminum fluoride, and sodium aluminate.

It is a commonly used chemical product in industry. It is widely used as plastic and polymer fillers, blanket flame retardant and binder, epoxy resin filler, toothpaste fillers, glass ingredients as well as paper color fillers and coatings. It also can be used as a catalyst support in aluminum salt, enamel, and ceramics. It can be used in the manufacturing of lubricants. It can be also used as a mordant in dyes. It can be added to concrete and cement to increase its heat-resistant properties.
