About Cuso4

Cupric sulfate is a common household chemical and it can be found in everything from shampoo to paint. It has numerous applications in the manufacturing and mining industries, and is also a good choice for electroplating.

The best part is that it doesn’t have to be expensive. The price per gram for this crystalline compound is reasonable and you can get it in bagged form from the likes of Mahaco, Zorui or in a powdered state.

The aforementioned boiling point is a little on the low side, but it does have an impressive name and the fact that it can be used to make a high quality dye solution means you won’t need to restock the pot every time it needs cleaning.

The best part is that it doesn’t require a lot of water to do so, just a couple of ounces or so to achieve a good colour match. A quick rinse of the sponge and your dye solution is ready to go. You might want to use a lukewarm sink to ensure the most effective dilution. It also helps to use a good pair of gloves. You might also want to consider using a glass or ceramic container, rather than plastic if possible.
