If you’ve ever used any kind of deodorant or cosmetic, you’ve probably seen the label for sodium stearate. This is a type of fatty acid salt, and is one of the most common in today’s soaps. It is found in many personal care products, and is also a component of some food additives.

Sodium stearate is a component of soaps, as well as solid deodorants. In addition, it is an important ingredient in some food flavorings. Other uses for this fatty acid salt include inks and food flavorings. Sodium stearate is also a component of latex paint.

Stearates are naturally derived fatty acids. These are obtained from plant and animal triglycerides. Although they are commonly made from palm and coconut oils, they can also be derived from vegetable sources.

There are three major types of stearates: magnesium, sodium and zinc. Sodium stearate is the most common fatty acid salt used in today’s soaps. During saponification, it is mixed with sodium hydroxide to form a solution. The hydrophilic portion of the molecule has a long chain, which makes it soluble in water.

Various studies have shown that stearic acid is not harmful at high concentrations. However, it has been linked to pulmonary infection in Sprague-Dawley rats. A recent study found that sodium stearate can induce thrombopenia in rabbits. Similarly, SODIUM STEARATE can induce platelet aggregation in vitro.

The EFSA Panel on Food Additives reevaluates the safety of magnesium salts of fatty acids. They concluded that magnesium stearate was not mutagenic.
