An iridium necklace is a beautiful piece of jewelry for anyone. Iridium is the least corrosive of all the elemental metals that can be used to create jewelry. This means that the iridium jewelry will not tarnish over time, like gold and silver.

A ring made of Iridium can be formed into a single ring, or it can be molded to form a ring with a break or a completely enclosed band. The ring can also be stacked and welded together to form a thicker ring.

Iridium can be used as a solid metal or as a component in an alloy with platinum. The iridium in the platinum-iridium alloys hardens the platinum making it more resistant to denting and scratching.

Pure Iridium is extremely rare, and only recently was it discovered that jewelry can be created using this incredibly expensive metal. It has been used to make the nibs on fountain pens, x-ray optics and unmanned spacecrafts but the price of pure iridium is more than four times what you would pay for platinum.

Iridium is also one of the hardest and most rare precious metals known to man. This makes it a difficult and costly material for jewelers to work with.

The most popular metals for jewelry are gold and platinum. They are not only naturally lustrous and white in color, but they are also hypoallergenic and able to resist tarnishing.

Another popular jewelry metal is palladium, which has a slightly darker hue than platinum, edging closer to silver-gray than silver-white. This harder and more scratch-resistant jewelry metal is about fifteen times rarer than platinum. It is sometimes rhodium-plated to add shine and protect against tarnishing. Rhodium plating can be light or dark, with “black rhodium” being an option for those who want a more dramatic look.
