Silver colloids have been used in a wide variety of ways for over a hundred years. They are not a new discovery by nanotechnologists. Neither is it a new phenomenon to notice that they exhibit strong antibacterial effects. However, the physics involved in the electrochemically synthesized form of this substance is very complex. The actual atomic cluster size and concentration is extremely variable and only by controlling the process and using capping agents to ensure that a specific atomic particle diameter is achieved, a very powerful and effective product can be produced.

Unlike traditional silver treatments which use ionic silver and are often found in over the counter supplements, nano silver products contain a very specific type of engineered silver called Ag404. These silver particles are able to steal thousands of electrons from bacteria cells. This enables the bacterial cell to break down and die. It is this ability that makes these types of products much more effective than traditional ionic silver products, which do not have the same ability to penetrate and destroy bacterial cells.

Another very important difference between true nano silver and the fake ionic silver products on the market is that true nano silver is very stable, unlike the ionic silver used in most over the counter supplements. This is due to the fact that it uses a very simple capping agent, which is a natural plant extract. The fake products on the market typically do not have a capping agent and as a result are prone to fall apart very easily, which is what causes them to lose their antibacterial activity.
