what is the formula for iron ii nitride?

Iron ii nitride, Fe2N is a green hexahydrate that is a metal aquo. It is a moderate explosion hazard and should not be inhaled or handled as it may cause irritation to the respiratory tract and possibly acute iron poisoning or pneumoconiosis.

Ionic Compound Names

When naming an ionic compound, use either the Stock system or the common system of ionic names. For ions with one possible charge, use the Stock system and for ions with more than one possible charge, use the common system.

The common ionic names can be found in Table 3.5.23.5.2 (pages 1-3). Ionic compounds with two possible charges have their names determined by the charge on the cation.

Ionic compounds with three or more possible charges have their names determined by the number of cations and the number of anion ions in the formula. Typical examples of this would be FeCl2, which is iron(II) chloride, and CuSO4, which is copper(II) sulfate.

Mossbauer Spectroscopy

In the case of an iron ii nitride, as shown in Figure 12, the spectrum can be fitted with three Lorentzian sextets that represent the three different atomic sites. The corresponding hyperfine fields are 34 T for the Fe-I site and 21.6 T for the Fe-IIb site.

These spectral findings agree with the results of an experimental study on the corrosion behaviour of nitrided austenite materials under various conditions. The main influencing factor is the development and growth of void channels, leading to an increase in the surface area where the thermodynamically unstable iron nitrides can decompose into iron and nitrogen. This leads to a reduction in the diffusion of nitrogen towards the centre and thus to a stagnation of the compound layer growth.
