A lead sponge is a perk in the game Cyberpunk 2077 that allows the player to shoot with Pistols and Revolvers while dodging. The effect is only active when the player is running, but it is very helpful for avoiding attacks while moving through an area. It is one of the best perks to have if you want to be a fast gunner and can’t afford to be hit by enemy fire.

Marine sponges are the oldest multicellular invertebrates and are one of the richest natural sources of pharmacologically active compounds. These bioactive molecules are often secondary metabolites, produced by functional enzyme clusters within sponges and/or their associated symbiotic microorganisms in order to defend themselves against pathogenic bacteria, algae, fungi and other potential predators. [2] Many of these pharmacologically important lead natural products have been isolated from sponges and are currently being tested for their antiviral activity.

In the present study, the Northwestern University scientists developed a new sponge material that can remove heavy-metal pollutants like lead from water, which could be a major step toward cleaning up oil spills or treating contaminated drinking water. The team’s approach is inexpensive, environmentally friendly, easy to use and can be reused repeatedly.

The researchers used a cheap commercial cellulose sponge, which they then immersed in a solution of manganese-doped goethite nanoparticles. This coating, a few tenths of nanometers thick, adhered to the sponge and trapped lead ions. When the sponge was used to treat a sample of contaminated water, it brought the metal concentrations down to 2 ppb — below the U.S. Food and Drug Administration drinking water standard of 5 ppb. The sponge was also able to retain more than 90% of its lead adsorption ability after repeated uses, although the performance decreased slightly over time.
